Highlighting approaches to address the African Water Vision and Agenda 2030

Convenor(s):
African Development Bank; African Ministers' Council On Water and African Water Facility

The primary focus of the session will be the launch of the AWF Long Term Strategy for 2017-2025 and the description of a new approach to leverage financing for water sector in Africa. The AWF will focus its activities and operations around three strategic priorities - including Project Preparation, Catalytic Investments and Investment Promotion -  which together provide a comprehensive approach to preparing sustainable infrastructure projects, whilst strengthening the enabling investment climate, and facilitating investment financing up to financial closure. This session would allow the AWF to engage with various partners and outline how this will improve water outcomes in Africa.    The session also provides an opportunity for AMCOW to showcase its activities including the next phases of the Africa Water Sector and Sanitation Monitoring and Reporting Programme. AMCOW, with the support of AfDB and AWF, has been developing important monitoring tools which will help provide direction for future water investment.    As co-convener the AfDB will showcase highlights of its leadership activities in the African water and sanitation sector, including the mainstreaming of the water related trust funds that the institution is hosting and its new strategic priorities.
