Part II: Building blocks for implementation and coherence

Thursday 01 September | 11.00-12.30 | Room: NL Auditorium

Part two of the high level event will gather Global Leaders for a discussion on possible strategies for delivering on the 2030 Agenda and the Climate Agreement. Can climate resilience be strengthening through wise water management, and can the implementation of the 2030 and climate agendas be better integrated - with water as a useful connector?

2015 was an eventful year with a number of historical global agreements on sustainable development being agreed, namely the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals in September and the Climate Agreement in December. They provide a progressive and clear road map for joint action. These global agreements must now lead to concrete and integrated implementation on the ground. This will require multi-stakeholder collaboration across sectors and boundaries as well as a holistic perspective. The convergence of these processes presents opportunities for strengthened action through resilient development, operationalized at a local and national level. The 2016 World Water Week will build the foundation for a continuous stock taking process, with the aim of ensuring water as part of the solution moving forward.
