Nature-Based Solutions and Water Security in LAC

Thursday 30 August | 14.00-14.30 | Room: Exhibition Hall

In Latin American and the Caribbean, where 80% of the population lives in urban areas, cities typically rely on grey infrastructure solutions. This “business as usual approach” could become unaffordable and insufficient to deal with current water security challenges. Some cities are already pioneering innovative green infrastructure solutions to overcome these challenges. Monterrey, Medellin, Sao Paulo, and San José, among others, are mainstreaming green infrastructure solutions into their investment portfolios. We will discuss the challenges and actions that will enable Latin American cities identify and take advantage of investing in nature-based solutions to overcome their water security challenges.

This segment will be spoken in Spanish.
