Sustainable Water Partnership: Delivering Stability and Benefits through Water Security

Thursday 31 August | 16.00-17.30 | Room: FH Cabaret

Water security is essential to humankind as it supports public health, economic growth, environmental sustainability and political stability. Development plans and investments that ignore water security usually fall short of their objectives when water issues and conflicts undermine political and social cohesion, supply and value chains, public and environmental health, as well as infrastructure operation and service delivery.

This session will explore how to:

Raise awareness of all decision makers on water security risks, including both long-term changes or stressors such as population growth and climate change, as well as shocks such as floods and other sudden events.
Engage local and regional leaders in water management planning efforts so that these become collaborative development processes that engage more than engineers and develop negotiated solutions beyond infrastructure development, including watershed management, behavior changes, and institutional improvement.

Representatives from the private sector, civil society, scientific and development organizations will discuss the links between water security and wider development perspectives.

The session will also engage the audience to contribute ideas, suggestions and success stories to promote water security as a core pillar of overall development.
