Water and Faith: Mobilizing local faith actors to achieve SDG6

Thursday 29 August | 14.00-15.30 | Room: L7
Istock

The WASH sector is increasingly recognizing the value of engaging with faith actors. Correspondingly, numerous faith actors have expressed support for WASH programs and the SDGs. This fourth annual Water and Faith event at the World Water Week builds upon these trends and the last three years of dialogue at this event.

The event will explore case studies of scalable faith-based development models in the WASH sector. Two Christian NGOs, Living Water International and Tearfund UK, will present examples from district-level WASH programs in Zimbabwe and Zambia, respectively, along with a toolkit called Flourish they co-developed for district-level church and community mobilization for WASH. The SMART Centre Group will provide a case study from Malawi where local church leaders and members were trained in local, low-cost WASH solutions. Lastly, the Ecumenical Water Network will share its efforts on introducing WASH curriculum in the educational institutions of its member churches around the world.

In the last 30 minutes, participants will engage in an interactive exercise that will help create a roadmap for how WASH actors can more effectively engage with faith actors.

For World Water Week participants interested in joining other Water and Faith Network activities, please contact Elizabeth Yaari, Senior Manager, SIWI elizabeth.yaari@siwi.org.

Gold standard events are committed to ensure the gender balance in speakers/panellists and young professional representation in the session.
